Shannon Sharpe has owned up to the explicit Instagram Live post he shared on Wednesday afternoon, which broadcasted live audio of him engaging in sexual activity with a woman to his 3.2 million followers.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer and ESPN commentator admitted that his account hadn’t been hacked, confirming that the audio was indeed him and a woman in a private moment that was accidentally streamed to the public.
“Obviously, I’m embarrassed," Sharpe said during an emergency episode of *Nightcap*, sounding remorseful. "As someone who values their privacy, to have such an intimate moment—just the audio—exposed to the world is humiliating on multiple levels.”
Sharpe initially claimed on X that his Instagram account had been hacked, but later deleted the post and acknowledged on Wednesday night that the incident happened due to his lack of familiarity with technology.
“I tossed my phone on the bed and got involved in an activity,” Sharpe explained. “I had no idea how Instagram Live worked since I’ve never used it before. Suddenly, my other phone started blowing up with notifications.”
Sharpe revealed it was his marketing partner, Jamie Fritz, who managed to reach him and notify him about the situation. He further explained that someone else eventually stepped in to end the live stream.
Sharpe clarified, “My phone wasn’t hacked, and it wasn’t a joke. It was just me being a healthy, active man,” adding with a laugh, “Ya’ll thought I was playing, but Unc still gets it in.”
Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson vouched for Sharpe’s limited tech skills during the episode, mentioning that the three-time Super Bowl champion has accidentally butt-dialed him before without even realizing it.
While Johnson showed some understanding, he couldn’t resist teasing Sharpe, reminding him of the times Sharpe had criticized his professionalism in the past.
Wow!
