Barcelona continues to push forward relentlessly, never slowing down, and maintaining their aggressive play. This time, they delivered a decisive 4-1 defeat to Girona at Montilivi, just four months after a humiliating comeback that cost them the league title and Xavi's job. The victory was convincing and could have been even more lopsided on the scoreboard.
Barcelona continues to showcase their exceptional form, demonstrating a level of play that's unmatched. With a perfect record of five wins out of five, they have accumulated 15 points, marking their best league start since 2017. Most impressively, their performance has been consistently dominant, leaving no doubt about their superiority. The team remains formidable and, for now, untouchable.
The question now is how they will fare after the international break. Barcelona fans are still pinching themselves to believe this is real. In the past, international breaks often disrupted Barcelona's rhythm. However, this time, the team emerged even more dynamic and driven, displaying a level of intensity that had seemed long forgotten.
Flick has a fundamental principle: start strong, maintain that intensity, and finish with the same vigor. The approach is all about relentless effort and intensity as the main weapon. Girona was overwhelmed without any chance to respond, similar to how Valladolid and, to a lesser extent, Rayo Vallecano experienced during their encounters with a Barcelona team that started to command respect.
This respect is now compounded by Barcelona's physical dominance, which leaves no respite for opponents. Girona, a team known for its preference for controlling and nurturing the ball, was dismantled by trying to showcase this very strength.
Lamine Yamal deserves special mention for his outstanding performance. He led the way with two spectacular goals in the first half and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to Flick’s directive of never letting up.
If Yamal is relentless, so is the entire Barcelona squad. From Ter Stegen, who made a crucial save at 1-2 and was later spared from a penalty by VAR, to Lewandowski, every player exerts maximum effort as if each match were their last. With a physical power that is both extraordinary and rare, Barcelona’s players and the ball move so swiftly that they become virtually uncontrollable for their opponents.
For Girona, it was an insurmountable challenge. Two goals from the young star in the first half, Dani Olmo’s brilliant strike shortly after the break, and a final flourish from Pedri following a magical assist from Casadó.
Stuani’s goal provided some consolation for Girona, preventing what could have been an even more humiliating scoreline. Despite missed chances from Pedri, Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Pau Victor as the game was already decided, Girona witnessed another impressive display from Hansi Flick’s new Barcelona. Neither Ferran Torres' red card nor Dani Olmo’s injury (the extent of which is yet to be determined) could halt their momentum.
